This project explores the concept of type and pattern to create a deck of bright and colorful playing cards inspired by Bodoni.

Create an entire set of playing cards inspired by a classic typeface. Review the history and importance of the type and bring the findings into each element of the design.

BODONI

Designed by Giambattisa Bodoni in 1798, Bodoni is a transitional serif typeface inspired by John Baskerville’s “Baskerville”. Bodoni was quickly adopted by many printers for use starting in the late 1700s.

Today Bodoni is used in companies such as, Elizabeth Arden, Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vouge.
